I am proof that we can reinvent ourselves when change comes our way.
Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of growing up to be a singer, just like my mom. My mom never became famous, but her love for performing lasted her lifetime and brought her tremendous joy. It was her passion.
I grew up singing and performing. It was my dream to make a living singing. I know, not a terribly realistic goal. Performing was a part of my identity. I was also interested in television production, so when I went off to college I majored in journalism and broadcasting in case the singing thing didn’t work out. I ended up working in television and public relations, and loved it. All the while I continued to perform. I was okay with the fact that it could remain my side gig because, like my mom, it was my joy.
